In addition to the hands on real work world experience an intern begins to build professional relationships which could be of benefit throughout an entire career. For the employer or intern host it allows an organization the opportunity to trial a potential employee or help a student with their educational focus.

When choosing an internship keep an open mind. There are so many possibilities to choose from, paid, unpaid, virtual. Look for the opportunity that excites you and in which you can see your skills and talents highlighted. Start early in your planning, find the time to do two or more different internships before starting your career. The more you learn and the more you do the more valuable you will be to an employer.
